Mission Statement

The Norwich Heritage Trust, Inc. is a nonprofit Corporation formed to promote preservation and awareness of the city's heritage, architecture, streetscapes, and neighborhoods through education, design, planning, and rehabilitation

Founded 1979

Education

  • Restoration/Preservation Home Shows (2)
  • Historic Fundraisers which showcased great architecture and re-use of historic buildings: Falls Mill, Broad Street School, Buckingham Memorial, and 4 private homes
  • Photo Contests in Norwich Bulletin raised awareness of Norwich´s special architecture (3)
  • Conceived & helped organize Harbor Day celebration
  • Presentations: Matt Isenburg, Max Ferro, Lisa Wilson, Arthur Lathrop, Arthur Liverant, Fred Biebesheimer/Dale Plummer
  • Lobbied for the restoration of a number of historic buildings including the Wauregan Hotel and the 3 buildings behind the Courthouse
  • Participated with Chelsea Advocates to craft a "Vision" of Downtown Norwicich

Design

  • Restoration of the exterior of the 1789 East District School House
  • Assisted with the rehabilitation of the 1783 Dr. Daniel Lathrop School House
  • Assisted with the restoration of the Victorian fence around Little Plain
